Spring 2022 °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Music Department Concerts Return to Mable Shaw Bridges Hall of Music

°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Department of Music’s live music returned to the stage the last weekend in February with two senior recitals. Moving forward into the semester, the Department looks forward to offering concerts by the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Orchestra, the Jazz Ensemble, a celebration of faculty performers in Fête musical, the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Choir, Band and Glee Club, among others.

Kicking off March, the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Orchestra, conducted by Eric Lindholm, returns to Bridges Hall of Music for two concerts, at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. The programs feature the world premiere of Professor Tom Flaherty’s Social Harmony, as well as a suite of songs by Florence Price newly orchestrated by Professor Eric Lindholm, and Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Joining the orchestra are soprano and Assistant Professor of Music Melissa Givens, and violinist Megan Chang ’23, winner of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Orchestra 2021 Concerto Competition.

The following week the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023 Jazz Ensemble, led by Barb Catlin, offers an afternoon concert on the front patio of Little Bridges in a program with student combos featuring student compositions and selections by Pat Metheny, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker and others at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8.

Rounding out the month, the department presents its second Fête musicale, at 3 p.m. on March 27. A series of mini performances by our esteemed faculty including Cynthia Fogg (violin/viola), Maggie Parkins (cello), Rachel Rudich (flute), Francisco Castillo (oboe/English horn), Stephen Klein (tuba/euphonium) plus pianists Gayle Blankenburg, Brian Hsu and Genevieve Feiwen Lee (piano) perform works by Gabriel Fauré, Francis Poulenc, Gao Ping, Nina Shekhar and others.

From April through May performances by the department’s Choir, Band, Glee Club, Balinese Gamelan and others bring a calliope of musical offerings to our college and greater community. The programs, held in Bridges Hall of Music and Lyman Hall in Thatcher Music Building, are composed of a broad array of music styles and genres and from across the ages.

The February–March spring 2022 concert calendar is now available online at and can be picked up outside Thatcher Music Building on the campus of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û2023. We expect to have the April-May calendar available in mid-March.

All the department’s offerings are free and open to the public.
