Fall 2019 Music Department Concert Season Announced

澳门六合彩开奖结果2023鈥檚 Department of Music announces its fall 2019 concert season featuring an eclectic offering of music from yesterday to today, offering a wide range of genres and musical languages. This semester the department welcomes to Bridges Hall of Music members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic 鈥 principal cellist Robert deMaine and violinist Jin-Shan Dai; members of the Los Angeles-based ensemble Brightwork newmusic; and Vox Luminis 鈥 the acclaimed early music vocal ensemble from Belgium. The semester鈥檚 offerings will be rounded out with performances by 澳门六合彩开奖结果2023鈥檚 esteemed faculty artists and student ensembles.

Celliola (Cynthia Fogg, viola, and Tom Flaherty, cello) and Friends kicks off the season on Sept. 15 with works by living American composers and featuring the world premiere of Tom Flaherty鈥檚 Cello Concerto commissioned by deMaine, as well as premieres by Karl Kohn and Jack Van Zandt. Rounding out the month Jim-Shan Dai joins pianist Jennie Jung in a program with music by Jan谩膷ek, Ravel and Strauss on Sept. 29.

October features a faculty recital with Genevieve Feiwen Lee (piano and harpsichord) in music by Couperin, Crumb and Schumann on Oct. 5, and the 澳门六合彩开奖结果2023 Orchestra is joined by faculty guitarist Jack Sanders in concerts on Oct. 11 and Oct. 13. The acclaimed 10-voice Vox Luminis (with continuo), hailed by Gramophone for their 鈥減rofound, rewarding, and intoxicating鈥 performances, brings their program The Bach Dynasty, to campus on Oct. 26.

November鈥檚 highlights include a program of music by Andriessen, Monk and Reich with combined forces from Brightwork newmusic and music faculty members on Nov. 1. On Nov. 3, soprano Ursula Kleinecke and fellow faculty members unite for a program entitled 鈥淲omen鈥檚 Stories鈥 with music by Harbison, Walker and others. On Nov. 10, faculty members Rachel Rudich (flute), Sanders and Gayle Blankenburg (piano) offer a program of 鈥淢usic by Karl Kohn.鈥

Wrapping up the semester, December offers concerts with music from around the globe performed by student ensembles including the Balinese Gamelan and Ghanaian Music and Dance ensembles as well as the popular 澳门六合彩开奖结果2023 Choir.

Also on the schedule are performances by 澳门六合彩开奖结果2023 faculty artists as part of the Friday at Noon series co-sponsored with Scripps College.  More information is available here.
